The European Academy of Otology and Neurotology and the Japan Otological Society has jointly published a Consensus document on the ‘Definitions, Classification and Staging of Middle Ear Cholesteatoma’. We hope that this system will be user-friendly and help in reporting surgical outcome. The aim of the classification and staging system is to aid comparison of surgical outcome amongst colleagues or institutions.
